About the Role

We’re looking for a motivated and practical person to join our team as a Network Steward. You’ll play an important part in keeping Hounslow’s streets, footpaths, and public spaces safe, clean, and well-maintained.

This is a great opportunity for someone starting their career — you’ll gain hands-on experience, receive training, and learn how highways and local environments are managed day-to-day.

You’ll work both outdoors and in the office, inspecting streets, spotting issues, and helping to make improvements that really make a difference to local communities.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Carry out regular checks of roads, pavements, cycle routes and public spaces.

  • Spot and record problems such as potholes, litter, graffiti or fly-tipping.

  • Help make sure repairs and clean-ups are done quickly and properly.

  • Learn how to carry out inspections under the New Roads and Street Works Act (1991).

  • Support enforcement under the Highways Act (1980) and Environmental Protection Act (1990).

  • Use mobile technology to record and update inspection data.

  • Work with residents, local groups, and businesses to resolve issues and keep areas looking good.

  • Support the team during winter and other seasonal operations.

  • Help improve the service by collecting data and suggesting better ways of working.

  • A team player who’s happy to get stuck in.

  • Experience or training in highways, construction, or environmental work.
